What other historical narratives and critical trajectories may be possible by departing from the “nation” as the implicit frame for blackface minstrel scholarship? How might we analyze blackface and minstrelsy globally? What other political and discursive frameworks make a different kind of sense out of blackface and minstrel performance?

To address these questions, Professor Kellen Hoxworth (Florida State University) and Professor Douglas A. Jones Jr. (Duke University) are convening a symposium on Global Blackface, Global Minstrelsy at Florida State University on Saturday, 2/26. The event will feature research talks from Professor Thomas F. DeFrantz (Northwestern University), Professor Chinua Thelwell (College of William and Mary), Professor Anita Gonzalez (Georgetown University), and Professor Danielle Roper (University of Chicago).
